Veterinary Technician

We are hiring an experienced vet tech to provide a safe and compassionate environment for the animals in our care. This is a full-time position. The hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays.  The qualified candidate must be able to lift to forty pounds, work efficiently and calmly both as a member of the team and independently with minimal supervision. Should be proficient in basic computer skills, including Excel, Microsoft Office, and email; familiarity with PetPoint is a plus. Must have excellent low-stress animal handling and restraint skills and knowledge of veterinary medical concepts, protocols, and procedures. Excellent customer service, critical thinking and multi-tasking skills are necessary. Strong organizational skills and an elevated level of diligence required. Proficient in  technical nursing skills, including, but not limited to, venipuncture; catheter placement; administration of oral, topical, and injectable medications; perform humane euthanasia, sedated exams or treatments and diagnostic testing procedures. Ensure accurate and timely data entry to animals’ medical records, including transfer of information from other Veterinarians. The candidate must also take inventory and stock supplies as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting rate for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, and experience. The target hiring range is between $19.00 to $22.00 per hour.  The maximum hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.

Associate or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology or a related field required

Animal Care Attendant

We are currently hiring part-time Cat and Dog Kennel Care Attendants (with the chance to grow into a full-time position for the right candidate.)  We are seeking dedicated & responsible individuals who are willing to be part of a team. You must be comfortable working with animals, and be able to maintain kennels and cages by properly following cleaning & sanitization protocols. This is a physically demanding position that involves a lot of heavy cleaning.  Candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs., be organized, and extremely thorough. In addition to cleaning, you will be asked to:

  • Monitor animals daily
  • Provide animal enrichment as needed
  • Participate in pet adoption meets with potential adopters
  • Provide excellent customer service to adopters and visitors

You must be able to work on Sundays from 8:00 to 5:00, with additional hours Mon – Fri from 8 am – 1 pm.

Feline Foster Coordinator 
We are seeking an energetic, highly organized kitten lover with vet tech experience to help coordinate our feline foster care program. This key role involves handling of the cats in our program, but also deals heavily with requests from the public, requires regular engagement with our foster caregivers and is highly administrative. The Foster Coordinator reports to the Feline Cat Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities – Foster Recruitment, Retention, Engagement and Stewardship

  • Familiarize new fosters with the organization and how fostering works; conduct foster orientations
  • Match fosters with animals based on behavior, foster experience and environment
  • Maintain positive relationships with current fosters by focusing on retention, including contacting fosters through follow-ups, sending thank you’s, and regularly engaging with our fosters
  • Work proactively with Events, Marketing, Volunteer and Communications departments to implement new and creative foster recruitment ideas
  • Facilitate effective communication between fosters and the Wellness, Behavior and Adoptions Departments so they understand our process, know what to expect, and both animals and fosters needs are met
  • Organizing and Expediting new intake preparation and profile updates
  • Maintain inventory of all animals in the program by updating the shelter animal database in Pet Point
  • Develop, maintain and update animal behavior profiles for adoption
  • Work with volunteer photographers and fosters to ensure quality photos are taken and websites and kennel cards are updated in a timely fashion
  • Assist with Intake appointments
  • Occasional processing of enrollment request emails as needed
  • Vaccinate, medicate, felines and assist when needed during hours at the shelter.

Qualifications/Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma required. College education is an asset
    Past shelter experience preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in animal-related profession.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in an administrative role
  • Vet Tech Experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of feline behavior and body language and knowledge of shelter industry preferred
  • Ability to work in a diverse, fast-changing environment and the ability to be flexible, resourceful and maintain a positive attitude in the face of challenging circumstances
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task; time-management is key
  • Superb inter-personal skills; Excellent teamwork; ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others
  • Creative writing; ability to produce clear and compelling written communication
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook calendar. 
  • Experience with Pet Point preferred but not required.

Working Condition

  • Employee is required to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be willing to communicate with fosters and /or staff during off hours when necessary.
  • Shelter work requires flexibility and the willingness to work outside one’s scope, including areas to which you are not assigned, when the need
